So I had this "working styles" training at work on Monday. Usually you take it your first year here, but I kept denying the appt and finally got made to take it, haha.

Prior to the training, a survey is sent out to 5 people I work with, they answer some questions and based on those questions this company determines my working style/personality type. Then we learn how to work well with other personality types.

The 4 styles are (feel free to skip these if you don't care):
Analytical - Polite but reserved, logical, fact- and task-oriented. This person’s focus is on precision and perfection. Other strengths include persistence, diligence, caution, and a systematic approach.

Amiable - Devoted, consistent, dependable, and loyal, the Amiable is a hard worker and will persevere long after others have given up. He or she is a team player, cooperative and easy to get along with, trustful, sensitive and a good listener. Working in groups with cooperative individuals, the Amiable tries to avoid confrontation. He or she enjoys company, performs best in a stable environment, and often has a stabilizing effect on others.

Driver - High achiever - a mover and shaker who is definitely not averse to risk. The individual is extroverted, strong-willed, direct, practical, organized, forceful, and decisive. Look for someone who tells it the way it is and is very persuasive. Watch out or you’ll be worn down and bowled over. A driver is task- rather than relationship-oriented and wants immediate results. This individual is not concerned with how something is done, but what is being done, and what results can be expected.

Expressive - The Expressive, a verbally adept personality, is engaging, accommodating, supportive of others, persuasive, socially adept, and relationship- rather than task-oriented. He or she loves to be one of the gang, and is always ready for something new and exciting, especially if the gang is ready to participate. Additional strengths include enthusiasm, diplomatic skills, and the ability to inspire others.

These 4 things are put into a grid, and then each grid is divided into sub-grids. So someone could be an expressive, but show some traits from one of the other groups. I am apparently 100%, strictly expressive, haha. Which I believe is true. I originally thought I was on the analytical side of expressive, but maybe I'm not.

The doc I got in my class says that I am...
-excitable, fun-loving, and talkative
-people-oriented, likes an audience; cherishes applause and recognition
-achievement oriented, a risk taker, competitive and spirited
-futuristic, creative, and inspirational
-procrastinator
-partier

However, expressives can be seen as unrealistic, dreamers, unprofessional, impulsive, and less disciplined.

Regardless, I'm excited about this type, because I think that's who I am and try to be. However it has really got me thinking that I am in the wrong place in my life. Maybe location-wise, maybe even profession-wise, definitely life-wise. I have always had these goals about where I should be at certain ages. Right now I am at least 4 steps behind where I planned on being. I've got ideas to get where I want to be, but I need time, money, and motivated peeps to work with.

That said, I'm a little worried about the dreamer part. I dream a lot - those goals I always set have been dreams that I have been knocking out... but my dreams are getting bigger and bigger. It is getting tough - I feel like I'm at a roadblock that I need to overcome. My fear can be summed up best with this lyric, "You can dream a little dream or you can live a little dream. i'd rather live it, cause dreamers always chase and never get it."

Also, I went to a metal show last night, it ruled.

  • We were raised by television to believe that we'd be millionaires and movie gods and rock stars--but we won't. And we're learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed-off.

  • I remember having a conversation with you in Josh's basement. Do you remember that? 16 hours of straight drinking and the sun was coming up. I'm behind on my plans also and I'm a few years older than you. That house I'm building is part of that dream of mine. Takes alot of work and sometimes, you just find ways to make it happen. For me, it was taking a job at freakin Target to get it done. If it weren't for dreamers like us, America wouldn't have some of those great things like well, Starbucks, Popeye's Chicken, and of course Wells Fargo arena. If some schmuck can own an entire block of East Village at 27, I'm sure we could do whatever we dreamed of doing. People will tell you that you can't. But then again, they are the same ones going to the same job everyday wishing they were somewhere else.

  • Well, I executive produced an album and got my name on the back that says so. I also got my name in the credits. So that's 2...I haven't made a million, I'm not married and I don't have kids. I'm not traveling the world on my own dime and time...I have a lot left. As I say, and have always said, it takes money to make money.

  • No matter where you go, there you are. You're a lot farther along then you think and you still have a great time doing anything you set your mind to. Keep the future in mind but don't loose perspective on the 'here and now'. Not many have your credits at 24.
