My iPod Rating Dilemma posted

I'm a big fan of rating music so that I have playlists of things that do not suck. However, I've come to a dilemma. What happens when a song is so horrible that it's amazing? I mean, I want to know that it's horrible, but I also want to know that I love it.

For example, Ill Mitch is this Russian Rapper - who may or may not be real and/or serious. He's definitely not the most talented rapper - in fact he's quite the opposite... but I really love it, haha. Do I rate his stuff high or low? And what if he has a song that's just amazing good? So now I have 1 for real 5 star song by Ill Mitch. Then all the others that are so bad they're good I've rated a 4 star? This is confusing. The same goes if he has a song that is so bad it's not good... it's just bad.

It's a category all it's own. If I rate it bad, I don't want it to be mixed up with this mysterious Gloria Estefan song on my iPod. But I don't really want it mixed up with the new highly rated Justice CD either...

  • Justice is amazing. Back on topic, I'd ask what you are trying to accomplish? If you want a favs list of "good music" then use the stars and drag/sync/play the Top Rated playlist. If you want something silly (like Weslie Willis) then create a comedy playlist and put stupid crap in there.

If you're in a rush for good tunes at a party or in the car, I'd rather navigate to Top Rated (because it seems to stay near the top on the iPhone/iPod) and not have my quality dirtied by silliness.
