I really wish sonos played nicer with iTunes/airplay so I could easily stream all this music that I spent years curating.

  • I've been wanting to try this: stephen.github.io/airsonos/

  • ha, i just starred that repo an hour ago. :)

  • Boom

    Nick Leeper posted

  • i mean, i could also just buy a play:5 or one of those connect boxes and hook an airport express to it... but that's another $350+ just to get something working.

    Derek Brooks posted

  • Yeah, I've thought about that too

    Nick Leeper posted

  • side note: that $350 price point for a device that's basically a sonos airport express seems a bit off.

    Derek Brooks posted

  • you coming straight AUX?

    Turner Hyphen Ford posted

  • airport express -> aux -> speakers/stereo/sonos – store.apple.com/us/p...e-2012

    Robert Tolar Haining posted

  • Tolar, yeah. That requires $350+ in additional sonos hardware. :(

    Derek Brooks posted

  • sonos doesn't support aux input anymore??

    Robert Tolar Haining posted

  • just buy a real stereo :)

    Robert Tolar Haining posted

  • the only speaker with aux input is the play:5 (which i don't have)... otherwise, you have to buy an airport express-like sonos device for $350 just to connect aux.

    Derek Brooks posted

  • I've been digging Chromecast, even though it is stupid to have to route to the TV to get to the stereo.

    John Schneider posted

  • If you're not doing multi room stuff, I don't get the value prop of Sonos at all, to be honest...

    Dan Carson posted

  • i feel like for $350 you could buy an airport express & a decent receiver + speakers

    Robert Tolar Haining posted

  • Or even just a pair of powered speakers with an AUX input, like these audioengineusa.com/S...eakers

    Dan Carson posted

  • yep. we're on the same page Dan and Tolar

i've got amps, speakers, and airport expresses doing multi-room in my house... i'd just like to be able to use my itunes stuffs with the sonos i have in my apartment.

man, i feel like such a douche saying that.

  • @broox hey @tmeyeratplay got a solution?

    harper posted

  • I've heard this. So I went with t.co/ZA0vMGQCtS + Airport Express. Super happy with this setup, but not easily multi-room.

  • @broox @harper you misspelled "paying for the privilege of playing in one walled garden". ps: bittorrent

  • @sneakatdatavibe @broox or I mispelled "I don't like to fuck with every device 100% of the time" or "I value uptime"

    harper posted

  • @harper @broox I am an apple user, too - agree on those points. But paying for music that is DRM-locked is dumb.

    sneakatdatavibe posted

  • @harper @broox my iTunes library is filled with alacs transcoded from flac and it's all compatible with *

  • @harper @broox @tmeyeratplay if it’s on your computer, is it indexed?

  • @harper @broox it’s not on the computer or it’s not indexed?

    nan posted

  • @nan @broox yes

    harper posted

  • @nan @broox if it is on the computer. It should be indexed.

  • @harper @broox and you can update the @sonos music info here t.co/4LO1bbpiBg

    nan posted

  • it's not the files that I want, it's the curation via ratings, comments, playlists, and smart playlists.

    broox posted

  • ah, gotcha! Now I'm pickin' up what you're puttin' down. I think your best shot for the time being is an airport express to aux.

    nan posted

  • which still lets you connect to the other rooms. It gets you there, but it's not optimal.

  • @broox @harper haven’t tried this myself, but I’ve heard good things: t.co/uCRsYguDET

    Cbeck527 posted

  • @Cbeck527 @broox this is what started the convo

    harper posted

  • Yea. I'm just sad that that means I need to spend $350 or more for a connect or play:5... which still feels hacky.

    broox posted

  • you could import playlists to spotify, if that helps

    nan posted

  • or google music, if you prefer.

    nan posted

  • @harper @broox ah nice! What was your experience with it?

  • @harper @broox @Nan has your best choice (using an AirPlay device as a lone-in to your Sonos).

    tmeyeratplay posted

  • yea. bummer that that requires me to spend $350+ for a connect or play:5.
