yea. and also has line-outs so i could make my existing hifi speakers/home theater system work with sonos.

exactly. 2 connects for my existing indoor setups and a connect:amp to power my outdoor speakers.

I assume they've done some math, and they're free to price things however they want, but I can't help thinking it's suboptimal...

It just feels wrong that I can get an amplified sonos speaker that shares much of the same tech and has more hardware for $150 less.

I think they must be pricing it toward pro installers who buy 8 of them for whole-house audio and shove them in a closet.
