Ok... I'm now debating going through Knoxville, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Champaign, Peoria, and the Quad Cities Instead.

Knoxville is a must-do. I'm there regularly and I'm pretty sure you'll dig it.

The Cincinnati route is the way to go. We drove out through Cincy and back through StL. The reasons I suggest the Cincy route. 1. StL to Iowa is terrible and you have 2+ hours of 1x/no data. 2. Driving through Lexington KY you see some of the most beautiful homes/horse ranches you can imagine. 3. Knoxville to Cincinnati is basically all 6 lane divided interstate and we were getting passed by multiple vehicles while I drove an average of 98-102 mph for 3+ hours. Go via Cincinnati

Driving with the flow of traffic at about 92 mph. Unreal and so much fun.
