  • It is? Glenda and I were there a few weeks ago and we couldn't decide if it was an actual flag or if it was painted on the ciling. Thanks for the info! Great shot, btw.

  • Yeah, if you visit again, look closely. there are several wires (similar to piano wires) strung across the dome right where the gold stops. The flag/eagle/star/etc is apparently just painted onto boards and those boards are sitting on the wires. You can sort of see the wires in this photo if you look closely.

    Our tour guide told us that the guy who painted that sky actually setup a ladder on top of that flag and painted it from there. eep!

  • I still don't see the wires, but I believe you. And, yikes!! You'd never find me up there - nor anywhere near up there!

    if you look near the eagle and toward the 1865 sign you can see them.

    you can see them better in the full sized version. there are about 11 wires or so.
