I took the tile up by hand with a 3" floor cold chisel and hammer...
Then I tried removing the thinset doing the same thing... it took me an hour to get done with 5 tiles.
I then rented an electric hammer chisel from home depot and got the remaining 13 tiles done in less than 10 minutes. (once i figured out how to use the freakin thing).
